Description
They take several casks of normal ex Bourbon matured Laphroaig, that has been maturing for between 5 and 11 years, and vat them together before pouring them into Quarter casks (125 litres). These casks give the whisky an extra oaky boost, while extracting some of the harshness from the younger whisky in the mix. As there is some of the youthful whisky in there, you do get a lovely extra smokiness and kick
Nose : ample, firm. Characterised by notes of chocolate and rich peat. On aeration it evolves iodine, salty notes (seafood) and citrus fruit (orange).
Palate : balanced and remarkably fruity, it develops notes of roasted coffee. Notes of tar, rubber and sweet spices.
Overall : long, lingering with exotic fruit (mango, passion fruit) and terrifically fresh balsamic notes (precious wood).
